Get It Scrapped: Brush Script and Layered Photo Techniques

April 03, 2014

This week on the Get It Scrapped blog we're talking about using Brush Script and Layered Photo Techniques on your scrapbook pages. Below are the pages I made for these articles and a bit more about their stories and process.

I made the page that appeared in the Brush Script post as a title page for my youngest son's 2014 album.

This is maybe a bit more busy of a page than I would normally do, but I really love bringing in bright colors and  trendy items on my title pages as a sign of the time and my creative preferences.  I love being able to look at my title pages and get an idea of what was popular during that year and I also love to take note of how my style progresses over the years.

Brush script is one of those trends that is really hot right now and luckily there are plenty of digital products out there that allow me to add this technique to my pages--especially since I have the sneaking suspicion that this is one of those techniques that I would be absolutely horrible at in real life! As I knew there would be no journaling on this page, I chose to use brush script in a big and bold way.  I extracted the script from a patterned paper by Valorie Wibbens and placed it inside of the hearts on my background. I really loved the end result!

For my page that appeared in the Layered Photo Technique post, I scrapbooked our first time at the horse races at Emerald Downs in WA.

I performed a couple of different photo treatments on this photo and had a really hard time deciding between the drama of the b&w photo and the pop of the color photo.

So taking inspiration from pages by Debbie Hodge and Emily Pitts in the Photo Play Issue of Masterful Scrapbook Design I decided to use both treatments by layering a colored portion of the photo over top of the larger b&w photo. This is such a simple but impactful technique that I can see myself using time and time again.
