Trend Watch | Wood Flooring Patterns

August 22, 2013

When we bought our first home one of the things I loved most about it was the "top-to-bottom" wood flooring.  Of course it didn't have anything fancy like some of the patterns pictured above, but I guess you could say I was partial to this trend then and was ecstatic when it made it's way into the scrapbooking world as well.

Here are a few of the ways that I’ve used wood flooring patterns as inspiration in my own pages:

I wanted this background to look like some of the wood flooring patterns that I'd seen on Pinterest so I used a digital stencil set from Creashens and clipped a textured brown cardstock to my favorite pattern.  Then I merged those layers with my white background to make my own patterned paper.  I like that though it isn't exactly wood grain, it still captures the essence of the wood floor patterns and still fits with my page.

Here I've created a wood-stained triangle pattern on my page background.  I've always wanted to try something like this on my own wood floors, but to be safe I practiced on my scrapbook page first ;)  I got this look by layering a misted triangle mask by Scotty Girl Designs over this rich wood background and applied the linear burn blending mode.  Then I played around with the opacity until it was just right.

And finally here I've used some wood-paneled alphas and a wood chevron print paper from Echo Park's Everyday Eclectic Collection to add to the modern yet everyday feel of my page.
